Team Stokes skiers push hard at first MLCQ Qualifier
Stokes Team skiers were pushing hard this past weekend for the chance to qualify for the US MASTERS waterski tournament in Callaway gardens. 3 Masters Last chance qualifier events have been scheduled this year, with the top 3 skiers punching their ticket to the tournament in the end of May, Memorial day weekend.
The first MLCQ this weekend was hosted at Cory pickos ski school in Destin, fl.
Pipe Miranda, who has been in sensational form punched his ticket in the mens jump event, finishing second to qualify, he will not need to do the next 2 tournaments as he is going to the masters. His brother, Rodrigo Miranda, Current Malibu Open champion, just missed out on qualifying this time around but will be hoping to next weekend.
Elizabeth Montavon, who has been training hard leading up to these events was so close to getting the qualifying score, a couple more buoys would have put her in a great positon. She'll be looking to add to her total this coming weekend at the 2nd MLCQ at lake hancock, fl.
Robert Hazelwood, who has been on fire lately on the dslalom ski, making the final at the Swiss Pro AM a couple weeks ago, again was on form never missing 39off and running 3 @ 41 off, such a close score only needing 1 more buoy to make the cut. Rob will also be competing in Tricks and Jump to compete in all 3 events at the US MASTERS. a very consistent skier Rob will be looking to stitch it all together this next weekend.
You'll be able to check out results for this weekends stop #2 of the MLCQ at www.waterskiresults.com. We'll also see a few more Stokes skiers taking up the challenge of qualifying for the US MASTERS.
